Cullingworth’s own music festival celebrates another successful year August bank holiday weekend is known for festivals and carnivals across the UK and Cullingworth is no exception, with Crickfest being hailed as a fantastic event for all the family and selling out yet again in 2024. The annual event held at Cullingworth Cricket Club was bigger and better than ever this year, despite the weather, as Crickfest became more than just Sunday with a bonus Saturday night being put on for the first time. Sunday’s acts included a number of highly regarded tribute acts, namely The Fools On The Hill Beatles’ tribute, Lee Brady performing as Elton John and The ABBA Tribute Band. They were supported by the fantastic covers band, Thunder Monkeys, and the wonderful community choir, Voices of Yorkshire, who sang well-known rock and pop hits. However the new Saturday night event gave the Crickfest team the opportunity to showcase some local and upcoming talent. Spots were given to two bands from Parkside School, Eutony and Big Beef, new local band, Dark Wolf, and the amazingly talented singer/songwriter, Christine, who sang with Crickfest favourites’ Juke House Jam Band. It was also an honour to see Identity Crisis performing again despite losing their bass player suddenly in May – they welcomed his son to the band in his place and their performance was an amazing tribute to his memory. The festival has always focused on being family- friendly ensuring there’s lots for children to do alongside the live music. This year the kids’ entertainment included a huge inflatable obstacle course, bouncy castle, fairground games, festival make-up stall and circus performers. 500 people including local residents, performers and volunteers attended Crickfest raising lots of money for the Cullingworth Sports Association, who provide sporting facilities for local residents. The event also supported other local organisations such as Cullingworth Village Primary School’s PTA, with their volunteers raising over £300 from selling sweets. Local food and drink vendors were welcomed and sold their amazing homemade wares including cocktails, freshly baked pizzas, barbeque and Jamaican food, which went down a storm with the festival crowds.
